Students share their views about the Glogster projects

Teacher's question 1: Why do you enjoy this project?

Student L. commented: "This is something I never did in my life, This is a good experience for me. I can make my own (Glogster) poster, and that's really amusing for me, because I can make my own, short version of the scene. This is the scorpion sting scene and I just enjoy it, it's fun."

Teacher's question 2: Do you think this project helps you to improve your learning about this unit?

Student M. commented: "It's really good, it's way easier than making this project by hand and paper because you can just copy and paste the picture and if you made a mistake you can delete it easily."

Teacher's question 3: What else do you like about this tool called Glogster?

Student M. commented: "I like it because you can make it private or you can publish it for everyone to see it and this is much easier than making a poster by hand and paper."

Teacher's question 4: Can you please share with me what you think about this project?

Student F. commented: "I think it's a good project because we can share what we understood about the book and how we understood it, we can say what happened in the book and share it with different people every where."

Glogster Projects

Welcome to our Glogster Project Blog

PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The MYP 2 English A2 group are using their netbooks to work on a Glogster multimedia poster for their English A2 lessons this term.

We have been studying the novella (The Pearl by John Steinbeck). The MYP Unit Question for this unit is: How can a sudden change in status affect the way people treat us?

The book is about an Indian couple (Kino and Juana) in Mexico, whose son (Coyotito) was bitten by a scorpion, but, being poor, was refused treatment by the Doctor. Later, Kino finds a pearl which they hoped would bring the money for the son's treatment for the scorpion bite. This sudden change in Kino's fortune and what happens to the couple after this finding is the  plot of the book.

In addition to class discussions, answering questions based on the book and other materials, students are working on creating a Glogster for this unit. Following are the areas the students were given to base their Glogsters on. They had to choose one of these scenes for their Glogster:

1.       The Scorpion Sting
2.       The Doctor’s Response
3.       The Pearl Discovery
4.       The Buyers’ Conversation
5.       The Attack in the Night

These are all scenes from the book and we have discussed them in class. We have also seen Powerpoint presentations and videos from Youtube based on various parts of the book.
I created Glog accounts for the students and showed them how the Glogster works, and it was fantastic to see that the students were getting each other's help with things they found challenging - these students are quite competent in using technology.

In their Glogsters students are including, text, images and sound. All students, even those who were not extremely confident in using technology, were engaged and eager to work on it.
